TUCSON, AZ Dec 9, 1998 "Brock Yates, Editor-at-Large, Car & Driver magazine, entertained the guests as Keynote Speaker at the Eighth International Automotive Media Awards Banquet December 6, 1998," Walter Haessner advised. Preceding Mr. Yates, Guest Speaker Jim Wangers told of some of his experiences in the early muscle-car days.

Haessner went on to say, "The coveted MOTO Award, sponsored by the Imperial Palace Hotel & Casino and awarded by IAMC, was presented at the 1998 Awards Banquet for those entries achieving excellence in automotive media in their respective categories. Additional awards were the International Automotive Media Awards (IAMA) Silver and Bronze medallions.

"The 1998 IAMC saw the introduction of ten new awards, the IAMA Best of Divisions, which were chosen from the MOTO award designees in each division." Haessner continued, "Concurrent with the International Automobile Media Conference (IAMC), but not related to the entries, was the presentation of the first IAMA Recognition of Life-Time Achievement, awarded to David E. Davis, Jr., Publisher of Automobile Magazine.

"Multimedia (CD-ROM 1st Place: The Corvette Anthology 1999!) , books, newspaper and magazine articles, technical papers, public relations programs, photography, videos, art, TV and radio programs are all included in the awards categories. The 1998 awards ceremony saw 115 MOTO awards, 110 IAMA Silver medallions and 33 IAMA Bronze medallions presented. A full schedule of seminars on the 5th and 6th, held at the Imperial Palace Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada, preceded Sunday evening's Awards Banquet."

Conference sponsors are Mercedes-Benz of North America, Meguiar's, the Imperial Palace Hotel & Casino, the International Society for VEHICLE Preservation, the Imperial Palace Antique and Classic Auto Collection, and Lincoln-Mercury Division.

Haessner, administrator of the event, thanked all who had taken part in the 1998 International Automobile Media Conference (IAMC), in particular the banquet speakers, sponsors, judges and seminar presenters.
